CALL for PRESENTERS: NCAA IGNITE SESSIONS 49TH ANNUAL GATHERING of NATIONAL COUNCIL OF ARTS ADMINISTRATORS & the 58th ANNUAL GATHERING INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF FINE ARTS DEANS NCAA invites its members to apply to present an Ignite Session at one of pre-conference events. This 90-minute session will feature a succession of lightning presentations on the following topic: Effective Communication: The Ups & Downs Good academic leadership implies the ability to effectively communication both up and down the administrative ladder –from student body to president—and vis versa. The daily flood of emails, deadlines, and new directives can test even the best communicator. For better or worse, how an administrator advocates, listens, and reacts will shape short-term outcomes and may have consequences for the institution long after. Our panel seeks stories and examples of innovative tools and strategies for effective communication with diverse academic constituents. How can an administrator start off on the right foot by creating clear expectations? How do you build objective consensus and support from all levels of the organization? When do you end the conversation? What are the best methods for objectively communicating during difficult times? Please feel free to interpret broadly. You may wish to share your thoughts about an idea or project, provide insights that include the good and the bad, or perhaps you might want to present a speculative idea not yet implemented. We are, of course, available to assist and support in developing a topic. APPLY: Interested members should express intent and send a brief bio by June 27, 2022 to Charlie Kanwischer ([email protected]) and Sarah Meyer ([email protected]).
