The Division of Ceramic Art, New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC), Alfred University, is seeking candidates for the Theodore Randall International Chair in Art and Design, a distinguished artist residency and teaching position, for the spring semester of 2022; 01/18/22 to 05/14/22.

The Randall Chair was established in 2007 to honor the legacy of artist and educator Theodore Randall, remembered as the architect of the School of Art and Design at Alfred and a significant artist and organizer in the field of ceramic art. The Randall Chair is open to established, international artists living outside the United States who, by virtue of their stature as experienced artists, will bring diverse cultural insight to the community of artists and educators at Alfred. The Division of Ceramic Art is one of six divisions in a comprehensive program with a very active faculty and prolific student body who access renowned facilities for artistic and scholarly research.

The Division of Ceramic Art seeks a ceramic sculptor with a robust practice and strong teaching abilities who can dialogue with various constituencies across the School of Art and Design. The recipient of the Theodore Randall Chair will teach one upper-division course and advise graduate students in ceramic art, make a public presentation on their work and at the conclusion of their residency mount an informal exhibition of their work. The Randall Chair will receive a private studio, a research stipend and 24-hour access to a renowned ceramic facility. Round-trip travel expenses to and from Alfred and housing will also be provided. The salary is competitive. See http://www.alfredceramics.com/ for information on current activities in the Division of Ceramic Art.

The School of Art and Design at Alfred University is an accredited member of NASAD, with 33 full-time faculty serving approximately 500 students. The School is unique among institutions of higher education, with an open curriculum, allowing a robust and diverse experience in studio art, design, and art history courses. Students and faculty alike thrive in an intensive and supportive learning environment. The New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC) includes the School of Art and Design, the Inamori School of Engineering, and Scholes Library. The NYSCC was established in 1900 to advance research in art, design, and engineering. That intellectual and creative legacy exists in all of the areas of study in the School of Art and Design.

Located in Western NY, Alfred University is the second oldest co-educational college in the United States and one of the earliest to have enrolled African-American and Native American students. Ideal candidates will demonstrate an appreciation of issues that matter to our university community, such as diversity and social justice. Alfred University is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) and actively seeks diversity among its employees.
